The Legend
October 1889,

A special occasion, graduation from one of the “Grande École Parisienne”. A mother wanted to offer her son a magnificent piece of jewelry symbolising this achievement.
Three days before the end of the International World Expo, Monday, the 28th of October, 1889, accompanied by her son, she pushed open the door of a small workshop (a family workshop located on the “Boulevard de Gand” known today as “Boulevard des Italiens”).
An old man hunched behind his worktable was refining the curves of his latest creation. Surprised by this visit at such a late hour, he gets up to welcome them and all three start to discuss.
During this exchange, the old craftsman’s daughter, heading to her apartment, is said to have touched the forearm of the young man. Her hand, sliding down the sleeve of the jacket, slightly grazed its four buttons.
The gesture, as spontaneous as it was unexpected, had been noticed by the old man’s experienced eyes.
From that day, sketches were drawn, one after the other, making the lines more and more accurate. Every detail was important and nothing was left to chance.
On the 22nd of December, those working hours gave life to a unique creation: a subtle balance between tradition and boldness. A piece of jewelry reflecting the charismatic young man, whose elegance had been enhanced by the sensual imprint of the lady.
And so this unique object was born, to which the old jeweler gave the name of his precious daughter: Elmantine.
